Meetings

 The Pickett Chapter held it's first meeting of 2011 on Wednesday, March 16 at the Museum of the Confederacy from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM.  Heavy hors d’oeuvres & beverages were served and Dr. John Coski spoke on the past and present plans of the Appomattox satellite museum. All attendees will receive a special sesquicentennial collector’s pin. Compatriot Robert Moore received a MOSB War Service Medal and new member James Swords was inducted.

On September 8th the Pickett Chapter held its fall meeting at the Westwood Club. Elections were held and Conway Moncure was elected Commander. Moncure also spoke on the personal life of Jefferson Davis and his family. Past Commanders Taylor Cowardin and Harry Boyd were elected as Adjutant and Lt. Commander respectively.


On June 30, the Pickett Chapter hosted the Virginia Society's reception to kickoff the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the War Between the States at the Museum of the Confederacy. Two new members were inducted and Eric App, Director of Museum Operations, spoke on the museum's collections relating to the 50th and 100th anniversaries.


The Pickett Chapter once again hosted the Virginia Society Convention in 2010 at the Westwood Racquet Club. Past Pickett Commander, Allen Mock, was elected president of the Virginia Society. Afterwards, the Pickett Chapter held a joint grave marking with the Longstreet Camp #1247 of the Sons of Confederate Veterans for Capt. Shields S. Lucke of the 38th Virginia Infantry at Shockoe Hill Cemetery. See our "Projects" page for more inforamtion on the grave marking.   



On Saturday April 25th, 2009 the Pickett Chapter hosted the 2009 Virginia Soceity Convention at Jefferson Lakeside Country Club. The convention was well attended and Catherine M. Wright, author of Lee's Last Casualty: The Life and Letters of Sgt. Robert W. Parker, Second Virginia Cavalry spoke to us about Sgt. Parker and all of the research that went into the book.
