The Pickett Chapter recently had a government grave marker installed for Private Thomas W. Epes at Hollywood Cemetery. Epes was a 20 year old farmer from Blackstone, Virginia when he enlisted on May 27, 1861. Epes served as a private in Company E of the 3rd Virginia Cavalry. Later in life he entered the Confederate Soldiers Home where he died on October 27, 1921. His funeral service was held at the Confederate Memorial Chapel. He is buried in the Confederate Soldiers Section.

We have identified the soldiers buried in unmarked graves around Epes and are working to have markers placed for those heroes in the near future.

On April 17, 2010 the Pickett Chapter and the Longstreet Camp #1247 Sons of Confederate Veterans marked the grave of Capt. Shields Saunders Lucke. Lucke was 21 years old when he was Killed at the Battle of Seven Pines in May of 1862. He had been elected Captain just days before the battle. His headstone was badly damaged so a new stone was ordered from the Veterans Administration and placed at his grave at Shockoe Hill Cemtery.
